Point One

Think Block Chords,
Not Full Piano

Keys 2 is not main keys — your approach is different
Focus on sustained block chords, not full piano parts
Your comping pattern should be simple and supportive
Block chords are where Keys 2 truly shines

Your role is to complement — and that's a powerful place to be.

Point Two

Play in the
Right Register

Too low (bass range) — your sound gets lost in the mix
Too high — it can feel harsh or screechy
The mid-range is where Keys 2 sits beautifully
This is where you cut through and add fullness to the sound

Find the sweet spot in the middle and let it breathe.

Point Three

When in Doubt,
Stay on the One

During free worship or transitions, things may flow freely
If you're unsure what's happening next — stay on the one chord
Anytime a song ends, return to the one until something new is established
Once a new progression develops, follow it confidently

The one is always home. Rest there with confidence.

Take time to become familiar with each patch
Every sound serves a different moment in worship
Knowing when to engage or pull back is just as important as what you play

Always Learn
the Piano Part

Study the full piano part for each song — it's your guide
Use it for structure, then pull your block chords from it
You may not play the full part, but always know it
At any point, you may be called to step into the lead role
